Resilience Lunch Breaks
The discussion series on mental health in challenging times
Wednesday, October 25 2023, 13:00 to 14:00 hrs (light lunch from 12:00 hrs)
Mental disorders are among the top ten leading causes of disease burden worldwide. One in two individuals will experience mental health problems during their life. Given that a large proportion of mental disorders originate at an age younger than 25, a closer look is essential. Psychological research has brought up several protective factors that contribute to short-term and long-term mental health despite adversity. These so called resilience factors have the most promising and sustainable effect when already strengthened during childhood and adolescents. Both, further research into these factors and the continuing promotion of mental health and resilience (primary prevention) as well as formal and informal help-seeking behaviour (secondary and tertiary prevention) will not only lead to an overall healthier population but is also key to reducing health disparities in adolescence that can be tracked into adulthood.
