30 Years of the Leibniz Association
The Leibniz Association is celebrating a special anniversary this year: It has been combining excellent research with social responsibility for 30 years now. Currently, the association unites 96 independent institutes and research museums from the natural, engineering, environmental, economic, spatial, social, and humanities sciences. Together, they are dedicated to solving the pressing issues of our time - in an interdisciplinary, cooperative and internationally connected manner. Their institutes conduct both knowledge and application-oriented research of supra-regional importance and are highly scientifically efficient and socially relevant.
Leibniz President Martina Brockmeier opened the anniversary year on March 25, 2025 under the motto "Freie Wissenschaft. Starke Forschung. 30 Jahre Leibniz-Gemeinschaft". For this purpose, representatives from science and politics came together at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
The LIR has been a member of the Leibniz Association since January 2020 and is dedicated to interdisciplinary and socially relevant issues: In times of increasing social, ecological and health crises, the topic of resilience is becoming more and more important. The LIR researches how people deal with stress, strain and traumatic experiences and how mental health can be strengthened. In doing so, the institute makes an essential contribution to strengthening individual and social resilience.
