The LIR is a non-profit research organization whose legal form is that of a “gGmbH” [”gemeinnützige Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung”], a non-profit limited liability company.
The LIR’s scientific program and transfer activities are determined by three areas of research, three research platforms and its “science-based services” program area.
Its partners are the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) and the University Medical Center Mainz (UMC). The supervisory board consists of eight members from federal and state levels and the UM and JGU, as well as two individuals from society and public life.
The LIR is led by a board consisting of two scientific directors and one commercial director.
The scientific advisory board, which consists of five scientists, advises the supervisory board and managing directors. The institute’s council consists of all work group leaders, as well as a representative from both the scientific and non-scientific staff. It advises and assists the managing directors with regard to the institute’s scientific development.
The administration and the employees council support all employees of the LIR. All of the employees together form the Institute Assembly.
