Medicine of the Future: Leibniz Holds a Debate at the MS Wissenschaft
How can medicine prevent diseases before they develop in the future? And what role do resilience, prevention, and modern research play in ensuring a sustainable healthcare system? These are the questions that will be explored at the event “Leibniz Debates: Medicine of the Future” on August 21, 2026, aboard the MS Wissenschaft in Mainz.
The event will focus on current developments in health research—ranging from modern analytics and early detection to resilience and prevention, and on to personalized cancer medicine. In three accessible keynote presentations, scientists will provide insights into their fields of research.
Speaking on behalf of the Leibniz Institute for Resilience Research, Prof. Dr. Klaus Lieb will address the topic “Prevention Instead of Repair—Why Resilience Will Shape the Medicine of the Future.” The talk will address the importance of resilience for prevention and the question of how scientific findings can help strengthen mental health in the long term.
The event will also feature the launch of the new “Leibniz Health and Prevention” initiative. It brings together the Leibniz Association’s expertise in the fields of health research, prevention, and early detection and aims to strengthen the transfer of scientific findings into practice.
