People & Learning: The LIR at the Mainz Science Market 2025

Guests of honor at this year's Mainz Science Market prior to the IVW's world record attempt, including Minister of Science and Health Clemens Hoch (second from left) and Professor Klaus Lieb (fourth from right).

On September 13 and 14, 2025, the Mainz Science Market took place for the 23rd time. Under the motto “People & Learning,” thousands of visitors were invited to experience science up close again this year. Hands-on stations and exciting lectures provided fascinating insights into regional and current research.

On September 12, the LIR was already part of the newly introduced Science Market for Schools format. The BEWARE project team showed schoolchildren how to deal with stress in everyday school life and stay as cool as possible.

At the actual Science Market, the LIR presented itself in two tents: At its own booth, experts from research and practice taught strategies for stress management and resilience promotion. In addition, the LIR was one of five Leibniz Institutes in Rhineland-Palatinate to participate in a joint booth that focused on the interplay between people, knowledge, and learning—with insights from psychology, resilience research, European history, archaeology, and materials science.

Thanks to the support of the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Science and Health, it became impressively clear how closely research and everyday life are connected.
