Animal models

At the Leibniz Institute for Resilience Research (LIR), we aim to decipher neuronal mechanisms that underlie resilience to stress and other factors.

Studies on animal models are essential for elucidating these mechanisms. We use the knowledge we gain from studies in rats and mice to approach the fundamentals of human resilience. The LIR is fully aware of the responsibility that comes with animal research. Animal welfare, the best possible housing conditions and the responsible conduct of experiments are not only ethical obligations, but also a prerequisite for obtaining valid scientific results. Accordingly, the LIR attaches great importance to the excellent care and housing of the animals. It goes without saying that we adhere to the regulations of the Animal Welfare Act. Animal experiments are only carried out if there is no alternative.
