Animal Welfare at LIR
Animal welfare is a top priority for everyone involved and is constantly monitored and optimized by the animal welfare officers and the animal welfare committee at the LIR.
Scientists at the institute take responsibility for animal welfare and optimize research methods to keep the stress on the animals as low as possible.
The Head of Animal Husbandry , together with the animal keepers and TARC staff, guarantees optimal husbandry of the laboratory animals at the institute.
The Animal Welfare Officers are responsible for the local control of animal welfare at the LIR and advise on animal welfare.
The Animal Welfare Committee informs and advises all employees who work with laboratory animals and supports the Animal Welfare Officers in their activities.
We support the Tierversuche verstehen initiative, which provides comprehensive and fact-based information about animal experiments at publicly funded research institutions (DFG, Leibniz Association, MPG, etc.) and are co-signatories of the Transparente Tierversuche.
